How Does Root Canal Work?

Decay, Caries or trauma can cause irreversible damage to the pulp of your tooth .

The tooth pulp contains a mixture of nerve fibres and tiny blood vessels that can become infected and inflamed causing pain or ache or die off and result in abscess or swelling .

Root canal treatment (Endodontics) is the process of removing the damaged and infected pulp tissue form the pulp and nerve canals in the roots under local anaesthetic.

Once the canals have been cleaned and instrumented, they are filled with a special filling material called gutta-percha.

Once the root canal filling is done a restoration such as onlay or crown are indicated to prevent the fracture on the coronal part of the tooth .

Root Canal Procedure

Root canal treatment is a procedure that removes the infected dental pulp from inside the tooth. The pulp is normally located in the center of the tooth, and is responsible for producing the tooth’s nerve and the surrounding bone. While teeth are very durable and can last a lifetime, they’re still susceptible to decay and infection. And when this happens, the pulp of the tooth can become inflamed or infected.

Root Canal Pain

Root canal pain is a serious problem that needs to be addressed right away. It is caused by the bacteria in your mouth (the same bacteria that cause cavities) infecting the soft tissue inside your tooth. Root canal pain is often misunderstood by many people. It is not the same as the pain one feels when a cavity is developing or when a tooth is broken or cracked. While they are both dental related, the pain from a root canal is from a different source and is generally more intense.
